Tens of thousands of youngsters and adults have joined the fact-finding journeys of Travel for Peace. We meet many others who wish to get further involved in concrete peace work. That is the reason why we in 2006 started Active for Peace, an international club for young people and adults who are concerned with peace, human rights and multicultural understanding.
Joining the club is free.
The vision of the Peace club is to give young people of all ages the belief that conflicts can be resolved and peace can be made, and that their own attitudes are decisive in attaining this objective. Active for Peace will be a global network of local initiatives with the member’s own involvement as the main driving force. The club will be a meeting place for involved people of different nationalities and religious and ethnic background.
The club will be run by individuals with schooling in international peace mediation as well as the training of young people in peace- and conflict resolving issues. The members of the peace club will learn how they themselves can contribute to prevent violence. They can take part in themed gatherings and an annual international peace camp. Experienced instructors will provide training in areas such as handling conflicts, conflict mediation, and multicultural communication.
Many of the activities are web-based. Members will receive a newsletter via e-mail at least three times a year. The newsletter will contain material about Norwegian and international peace actions as well as information on seminars, workshops, peace camps and campaigns. The peace club will construct a website where the members can partake in discussions and publish their own texts.
The main target of Active for Peace is to give young people and adults a chance to get involved in hands-on peace work. The club will encourage the members to create a positive contribution to conflict mediation and understanding of their own local communities. But it will also be globally orientated and be involved in international affairs.
